With Summer behind us, you will soon begin noticing
the air getting drier and cooler. In
the Fall months to follow, your skin won't maintain moisture the way it did
through the humid days of Summer - dry, cool air conditions can leave
skin dehydrated, taut and slightly
uncomfortable. As a result, your skin may become increasingly dry and even
itchy … it's time to update your skin care routine!
Here are 5 steps you can take to get Fabulous Fall Skin...
1) Drink Up & Eat Well:
One of the most significant initial steps in rejuvenating your
skin is from the inside out.
Drink plenty of fresh, clean (filtered and reverse osmosis)
water. Drinking 8 glasses a day, every day, will
help to flush out body toxins better, thereby encouraging a healthy and balanced
skin. Drinking plenty of water during
the day will assist in maintaining plump cells and will keep dehydration at
bay. If your cells become dehydrated it
will show in your skin; fine lines and wrinkles can become more pronounced.
Eat foods with healthy oils and omega fatty acids. Fall
is a season when fresh fruit and
vegetables abound, so take the opportunity to include Pears, Leeks,
Pumpkins, Broccoli,
Cabbage, Carrots, Blackberries, Grapes, Plums and Raspberries as
add-ins/substitutes with your daily meals. Eating these fresh foods
allows you to load up on
Vitamins C, B, E and A, iron, zinc, calcium, potassium, bioflavonoids,
omega-3
fatty acids and antioxidants, all of which help to prepare your skin and
body for
the challenges it will face during the winter. The result - boost the
skin’s immune system
while preserving its quality and restoring its natural glow.
2) Cleanse Gently:
Now is the time to use a gentle cleanser that won’t strip
your skin of its vital oil barrier. The
natural oils in your skin work to balance your skin's moisture level. Harsh cleansers will only strip these natural
oils and add to the frustrations of dry skin.
You will also want to avoid using hot water when washing your face. Instead,
stick with tepid or lukewarm for daily cleansing.

3) Exfoliate:
Exfoliating your skin is an important step for each season,
but especially as your skin becomes drier.
Summer damage can result in cellular build-up on the skin’s surface,
causing it to look dull and be congested. In order to
effectively remove dead skin cells, leaving the skin soft and smooth, you should exfoliate regularly. Exfoliating
2-3 times a week will slough away dead cells, preparing the skin underneath to absorb more moisture and nourishment. Exfoliating also increases cellular turnover and allows your other skin
care products to penetrate more easily, giving them the opportunity to work
more effectively.
Recommended Body product(s) - a key benefit to using Purple Essentials' all natural, Body Scrubs and Polishes is that they are great for both exfoliating & moisturizing!
Recommended Face product(s) - avoid face products with apricot kernel, walnut and/or
almond particles, as these tend to have jagged edges when ground and can cause
skin tears. Purple Essentials' Cleansing Grains and Refining Mask are both effective and gentle exfoliates.
4) Adjust Moisturizers:
As the months
get colder your skin needs more moisture than it did in previous seasons. Your
skin does not adapt automatically to seasonal changes, and using a natural
oil-based moisturizer (vs. water, silicone or alcohol) will help to balance its
hydration level while nourishing and protecting it from the
cooler temperatures. Evaluate your
skin’s needs to see if you need more moisture throughout the day. *Tip: Lock in moisture while finishing up
your bath or shower routine. Coat your
body with a light layer of (natural) Bath & Body oil, pat dry.

5) SPF – Rain or shine:
Although
the
Autumn sun is not as strong as it was through the Summer, it's still
necessary to use your sunscreen regularly (a sunscreen with SPF of 30+
is recommended). Ultraviolet radiation is composed of three wavelengths: UVA, UVB and
UVC. While UVC isn't a concern for skin cancer, UVA and UVB play
different roles when it comes to tanning, burning, and photoaging. It seems everyone is mindful during the
Summer about wearing sunscreen to protect skin from the sun's ultraviolet radiation, but less so throughout the Fall and Winter
months - just because it is colder outside doesn’t mean those rays aren't affecting your skin. Always wear a sunscreen that is "broad spectrum", meaning it
will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays.
Note ... UVA (aging rays) cause skin’s
collagen and elastin fibers to break down, and these rays come from not
only the sun, but from indoor, fluorescent lighting as well.
