Packaging TO Trip

One of my favourite roles in Purple Essentials, next to product creation, is package design.
Often I don't know what the packaging should look like until I actually see and feel it (tactile is good).

Our recent trip to TO for packaging supplies offered a few "pure joy" moments for me.
Oh, what a happy woman I was in the midst of all of the packaging options!

Pulling together a Holiday Shopping Event entails many different tasks, with the packaging theme again being, one my favourites. (Always looking for echo-friendly & recyclable options).

This year we have decided to go with purple (but of course), black, white & silver.

Will take pics of packaging as our production and packaging continues... stay tuned.

Motivation & Inspiration

What do you get when you cross motivation & inspiration like this??
(Thanks to my wonderful husband!!)

Winter Bliss Soap!!

Working long hours in the studio often requires motivational & inspirational treats :)

Getting into the festive spirit now... Nice hot Cinnamon Dolce Latte paired with a fresh new holiday CD! (yes I enjoy my SB)
and voila!
Winter Bliss Soap is created... all of the usual skin nourishing ingredients; olive, coconut, rice bran & apricot kernel oils and cocoa butter along with the natural essential oils of peppermint, cinnamon and freshly grated vanilla... mmmmm.

It is beginning to smell a lot like Christmas!!

Soap Days

Well, making soap is a love/hate adventure, some days.
You just never seem to know exactly what you are going to end up with.
"Trial and error"... "Live and learn", come to mind.
"20/20 hindsight" sums up yesterdays soaping adventure!

After preparing all of the ingredients for the Coco-Creme soap (freezing fresh coconut milk to just the right temp) measuring with care and diligence... I decided to allow my creative juices to flow, and added pink clay, beeswax, ylang ylang & cardamom essential oils to a proven recipe.

No problem, after countless batches of amazingly great soap, time to let loose!
I mixed batch to trace - no problem.  Poured into a new mold, quite excited to get this batch "to bed" as it's scent is soooooo exotic.

Turned my back for 10 seconds to prepare blanket to wrap soap in mold and turned back to an amazing soap volcano!!!
I have read and heard about such a phenomenon, but had never witnessed such a thing.  Wow... the soap grew to 3+ times it's poured size, growing in front of my eyes.  This went on for 3 mins, while I watched in horror and awe.

When it was done it's wilful show, I managed to salvage much of it and return it to the mold - covered and wrapped it - fingers crossed - and put it to bed.

Through the night I had to stop myself from going to peek at it.

Unwrapped it today, low and behold it turned into a beautiful batch of soap.  I think it is going to harden nicely yet still offer creamy lather!

Phew... like I said before, "You just never know exactly what you will end up with"

...Orange Frankincense soap getting ready for molds as I finish this entry up.
Fingers crossed, yet again :)

Makings of a Hoilday Shopping Event

Well it is all beginning to come together... location booked, invites designed and printed, labels (finally) designed and being printed (thank you, ingredients ordered from all over the globe  -mmmmm! (sustainable resourcing), packaging sourced and ordered (paying attention to recycling goals and product needs), some "help" recruited for the big event and prep leading up to... (thank you to all who have generously volunteered to help!).

Now to get busy making those fresh & natural goodies that everyone will be seeking.
Last night, a double batch of Cocoa-Mint soap went "to bed", this means soap mold wrapped in warm blankets to begin its saponification process... we will check on it later today (fingers crossed) and hope it will be ready to be cut soon.

About to begin a batch of Coco-Creme Soap, made with real coconut creme.  As always, everything must be fresh & natural to = pure & simple = PURPLE ESSENTIALS

So much to do to pull this shopping event together...count down is on!
